Ah, I was a little unsure by the thread title exactly what you meant. But I had my suspicions!

Over here on the other side of "the pond," we Americans call it blood type.

Now I know another Britishism.

I'm curious --- why do you ask/poll?

And I am A negative which is supposed to be one of the rarer types. Yet according to this poll, A negative is even with O positive (so far---I realize few have responded). Interesting. . .

Yep, I understand that us A negs represent only 15% of the population. It will be interesting to see if the results of this survey bear this out!

I was told once that I'm a universal donor. I think that is O+. All of my children are O+.

Roberta,

It's O- that was generally considered to be the "universal donor".

There's a good chart H E R E (scroll down a little) entitled "What Blood Type Can Donate to Me?"

It also says:

quote:

Recent Blood research indicates that where, at one time, a person with type O negative Blood was considered to be a 'universal donor,' this may no longer be correct, because of a better understanding of the complex issues of immune reactions related to incompatible donor Blood cells.

Then I must not be a universal donor or I would have had problems after my children were born.

O Neg.

And I know it's the universal donor because on all the hospital/medical shows, they always ask for O Neg blood when in an emergency.

This reminds me of a snippet of "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" I saw. Some kid had... leukemia? Well, some sort of illness. His blood type was B+. He started a foundation or support group or something with that name: B+, i.e. Be Positive.
