If our weather guys are right, and I have no reason to believe they are, I'll be doing my long run in delicious <70 degree temps tomorrow.

Nice!

I went to the Lucy store and their petite running pants were still too long. The salesgirl didn't believe me til she came to check on me. LOL

I just ran around after campers for a week. Does that count as running time?

Had planned on a long run today. However, I am still really tired from vacation--or more the running/bicycling in the hills. So, cut today's run to a short 6. Felt really good. Now, start the taper for next wekeen'ds half ironman!

What a different cool temperatures make! I was able to hold marathon pace for nine miles today and it wasn't a hard effort and I didn't even realize I was running that fast until I was close to being done. A dry 65 is ever so much better than a humid 90+.

After lunch we're going to pick up my husband's new bike and then ride home from the bike shop...that will be about 8 miles, I think. We're both out of cycling shape, so even though that doesn't sound very far, I'm going to hold us to it. I'm excited to be back on two wheels, for sure!

I ran outside this week. We live in the mountains so there are hills every which way out our door. I did great. I ran 5K distance in 32 mins with warm up and cool down walking. I don't know how I did that. And it was a new route, a loop actually. I don't like doubling back. It was nice. Then I dug potatoes for 2 stinkin hours. My legs are shot.

Do I need to taper or something before the 5K? I mean, it's such a short race, I don't think I'd need to.

Stellaluna - I'm jealous.

That's all I have to say.

Homespun--nah, no real taper. You might swap days around so you aren't running the day or two before. Other than that, you should be good!

As for running in the rain, I love, Love, LOVE running in the rain!!! The harder, the better. Certainly not the time to post good numbers, but it is so fun! Usually I'll leave a towel on the front porch so I'm not leaving a drippy trail inside.

I'm in full taper mode. I need it as I am tired. I've taken naps both yesterday and today. That's not normal for me!

I have a couple of things to talk about today.

First, we picked up Mr. Stella's bike Saturday and rode home. We got lost and ended up in a "bad" neighborhood and he got mad at me, even though I don't think it was entirely my fault. All together we rode about 12 miles. I need a new seat because my tailbone hurts and that's not normal. The seat that came with my bicycle isn't great, so I'll be getting a new one made for women. Mr. Stella is really excited about his bike, as he's never had one that didn't come from Walmart or similar.

Second, I figured out the problem with my achilles tendon. I was having some pain after my long run two weeks ago, but now it's all good and I'm pain free.

Third, long runs are a good time to try some different things. I discovered last week, while running with the heel pain, that if I adjusted my form, the pain went away and I also sped up, as in about a minute faster than usual. Instead of pushing off, I was deliberately using my thigh muscles to pull my foot up and then just letting it land naturally as I pulled up the other one. I mentioned this on another forum and I'm told this is basically what POSE method is. Anyone familiar with that?

I haven't really looked into that, but I need to work on my form.

I have heard of it though.

stella--you gotta get a woman's saddle! Basically, you need to sit on your butt bones. No pressure on you tailbone or girlie bits AT ALL.

LOL I ordered one tonight and it will be here in a few days. I really got spoiled by my Giant Cypress...all the components were for women from the get-go and totally comfortable. But my old old bikes I had to buy new saddles for, too. I should have ordered one when I first ordered the bike--but I was so excited about getting it I forgot!

Bummer, girls! I hope you recover from your colds quickly. HC, good luck in your HIM this weekend!

I've been sick for a few days, so I haven't done any running since Monday. I'm hoping I won't have lost too much when I get back into it. It's a month until my triathlon, so I'm getting kind of nervous about missing training. I also have swimmer's ear right now, so that's limiting things too.

BTW, HomeSpunLady, congrats on the 5K distance in 32 minutes! That's really good!

Praying for you and your immune system!

My officemate came into work Tuesday coughing and sneezing and wouldn't go home, even though I strongly encouraged it. I'm positive that's where I got this. But I'm skipping my short run tonight, taking some cold medicine to get some good sleep, and hopefully I'll be up to my 14-miler this weekend.

ames01--you should be good. I think it takes at least two weeks of no activity to begin losing fitness. Or that's what I heard.

Sorry for the colds! I hate them with a passion now that I run.

My runs have been rather lackluster lately but I think it has more to do with the heat than anything. By the time I can get out there to run it's already boiling hot and I'm a wimp when it comes to the heat.

I have a shoe question. I can tell my shoes are starting to go. I have a race in two weeks, should I replace now or wait?

New shoes identical to the ones you're running in? What's the distance? How much do you expect to run between now and then? How much do you have riding on this race?

Hoping to get identical. 5K. I expect to run 3x a week, so like 6 more times. And I just want to finish running, that's all. It's my first race.
